Adult Massage: what the phrase means here

Visitors type adult massage into a search bar. Hungarian studios call the same thing erotic massage. Both names describe one thing: a massage given by a therapist in a private studio room, sensual rather than therapeutic, for adults only. An adult massage here is not a spa treatment and makes no promise about muscles or wellbeing. It is a relaxed, intimate session of a set length, booked in advance and held in a quiet room with the door closed.

Each studio publishes a short menu, and the same words recur across Budapest and the towns. In general terms:

• tantra: a slow, unhurried style built on breath and touch
• nuru: a massage using a smooth gel
• body to body: the therapist uses more than the hands
• lingam: a style centred on the male guest
• four hands: two therapists at once
• couples: a session for two guests together

These are menu words, not a script. The therapist decides how a session runs and where its limits sit, and an adult massage includes nothing beyond what was agreed when it was booked. The length, the kind of massage and the number of therapists shape the session, and they also shape the price, which no studio publishes. Budapest studios by district and street

Every Budapest studio in this guide sits in Pest, on the flat eastern bank of the river, spread across five districts. Most guests staying in a central hotel are within a short walk or a short taxi ride of an adult massage studio, and the districts below cover the ground.

District V is the old centre, the inner city between the Danube and the inner ring road. Its studios sit on Petőfi Sándor utca, Vaci Street and Vörösmarty Street, close to the hotels along the river and the main shopping streets.

District VI, Terézváros, holds the largest group. These are the streets around Andrássy út: Szinyei Merse utca, Király Street, Aradi utca, Izabella u., Rózsa u., Németh László utca and Podmaniczky utca. An adult massage in District VI is rarely more than a few blocks from the avenue itself.

Opening hours, from early slots to late nights

Hours vary more than addresses, so check them before planning an adult massage around a dinner, a concert or a flight. All times below are as each studio lists them.

Early starts: Barbara massage opens at 08:00 on Friday and Saturday, though it is closed Monday to Wednesday and on Sunday, and opens at 15:00 on Thursday. Happy Massage opens every day at 09:00, as do the Vulkánház branches outside the capital. A larger group opens at 10:00: Paradise Massage Budapest, Erotic Heaven Massage, Heaven Massage Budapest, Lindom Massage, Massage666 Budapest, Dreamhouse Massage and Eden Massage.

Afternoon starts: Euphoria Massage opens at 14:00 Monday to Thursday and at 11:00 from Friday to Sunday. Allure Massage opens at 14:00 daily, Sensual Touch at 15:00 and King Massage at 16:00.

Late nights: King Massage stays open until 04:00 every day, the latest hours on this page. Starlight Massage closes at 02:00, and at 03:00 on Friday and Saturday. Sensual Touch also closes at 02:00. Paradise Massage Budapest and Happy Massage close at midnight. Most others close between 21:30 and 23:00, and Massage666 Budapest, Massage House and Erotic Massage Budapest close earlier on Sunday.

No hours published: Sophie Massage Univerzuma in Győr lists none, so ask before you go. For any late adult massage, message ahead, because a studio open until the small hours still books its last slot well before it closes.

Adult Massage: the towns outside Budapest

Outside the capital the picture is small and simple. Five towns have an adult massage studio in this guide, and none of them has a page of its own on this site: this section is the only place they are described.

One chain, Vulkánház Masszázsszalon, has a branch in all five towns. Each branch lists the same hours, 09:00 to 21:00, and the same contact channels: phone, e-mail and website. The menus are shorter than in Budapest, but an adult massage booked at any branch follows the same pattern of a set length and an agreed kind of massage.

• Győr: Vulkánház Masszázsszalon Győr on Külső Árpád utca, with further addresses listed on Brassói utca and Mártírok útja; its menu lists lingam. Győr also has Sophie Massage Univerzuma on Babits Mihály utca, whose menu lists tantra, nuru, lingam and couples, and which publishes no opening hours.

Érd sits just south west of Budapest, close enough for a resident of the capital. Győr, Sopron and Szombathely lie in the north west, towards the Austrian border, and Székesfehérvár lies between Budapest and Lake Balaton. How to book and what to ask first
